This course is primarily intended for marine engineers who will be responsible to perform electric arc welding for the repair and maintenance on board ship, but is equally suitable for those engine ratings to perform their duties and responsibilities safely and efficiently during their on board employment.

The subject covered should serve as a valuable introduction for those who have little experience in electric arc welding and is also very useful for experienced engineers. Trainees will gain considerable benefit as they will explore and experience a variety of electric arc welding techniques. The course includes specific principles of arc welding with their application in practice, using various techniques in operation.

Course contents: Introduction to electric arc welding machines, purpose, potentials and maintenance; Introduction to safety procedures prior, during and after the electric arc welding operations; Introduction to the equipment and tools which are used during electric arc welding operations; Introduction to the tests for metal identification; Introduction to welding techniques, joints, grooves and welding faults; Practical work; Evaluation.
