The course comprises a specialized training programme from proficiency in personal survival techniques STCW A-VI/1-1, fire prevention and fire-fighting STCW A-VI/1-2, elementary first aid STCW A-VI/1-3 and personal safety and social responsibilities STCW A-VI/1-4.

The course is designed for every seafarer. Prior to the first embarkation, a seafarer must hold the certificate of the basic safety on board ship STCW A-VI/1. Certificate of the basic safety on board ship is acquired by a seafarer who has completed the approved training and passed examination.

Candidates successfully completing the course should be able to survive at sea in the event of ship abandonment, take appropriate measures for the safety of personnel and of the ship and to use fire appliances correctly, take immediate action in case of medical emergency, adapt to the work and life at sea in accordance with regulation A-VI/1 of the STCW Code adopted by the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers, 1978, as amended.

All trainees must be certified by doctor to be in good health.

The course takes full account of the detailed outline set in A33 part of the Regulation on ranks and certification of seafarers (Official Gazette Montenegro number 55/2013). The course is fully compliant with the IMO Model Course 1.19.
