We are all aware of present difficulties onboard, busy schedules, economic situation, paperwork, more and more strict control of crewmember rest hours, and how important becomes effective control of maintenance cost and optimizing all resources available. A skilled member of the ship's staff, as a resource, is invaluable to the smooth running of the vessel.

Therefore, his skills have to be developed, assessed and evaluated as a part of a continuous process.

Trainees successfully completing the course will understand the principles of operation and procedures for handling ropes, wires, mooring equipment, vessel maintenance, coating and maintenance of safety equipment on board vessel.

They will also be familiar with the operation and work with various deck machinery and tools with specific emphasis on the safety, proper procedures to be followed before, during and after the work with the appropriate machines. They will also be familiar with the use of the measuring tools, detection of faults, etc., using practical examples and case studies from real life on-board

This training course is designed for junior deck officers in order to facilitate their understanding, improve their skills and techniques in  handling ropes, wires, mooring equipment, vessel maintenance, coating and maintenance of safety equipment on board vessel.

The course aims to provide the trainees with introduction knowledge and understanding of basic theory and practical skills necessary for tasks during handling of ropes, wires, mooring equipment, vessel maintenance, coating and maintenance of safety equipment on board vessel.

Those wishing to start this training course should be in possession of a valid COC (minimum Officer in charge of a navigational watch).
